Hello everyone! Today we’re taking a look at “終焉の魔女” , a 2D side-scrolling action-adult game developed by K.O工房 and available on DLsite for 1,980 JPY.

The game currently supports Japanese, Traditional Chinese, and English. It features a dark fantasy setting with mild gore and grotesque elements, while the adult content includes tags such as monster encounters and bondage. If you’re a fan of darker horror-themed stories or classic 2D action games, “終焉の魔女” is definitely worth checking out.

1. Key Features

  1. A 2D side-scrolling action game.
  2. Includes gore and dismemberment effects, which can be disabled in the settings.
  3. Simple controls and low overall difficulty, with very few extra gameplay systems.
  4. Separate H-scenes for in-combat encounters and post-defeat events.
  5. The overall production quality feels somewhat rough around the edges, so players looking for highly polished gameplay may want to keep that in mind.

A classic side-scrolling action game experience.

2. Story Overview

The protagonist is a witch who has been awakened from a long slumber, one of the few remaining witches left in the world.

Witches always seem to have a thing for bold and revealing outfits.

Long ago, witches were revered figures. Whenever people faced hardships, they would seek guidance from witches, who gladly helped those in need. It was an era where humans and witches coexisted peacefully.

That golden age came to an end with the rise of the Church.

The Church declared witches to be heretics, disasters, and corruptors of mankind. Under the banner of witch hunting, they launched a ruthless campaign of persecution. Realizing she could not stand against the Church’s power, the First Witch, known as the Great Mother, transformed herself into stone and used the last of her strength to guide the surviving witches to lands beyond the Church’s reach.

Now, witches stand on the brink of extinction, and all signs point back to the Church as the cause of their downfall. After reading the words left behind by the First Witch, you make up your mind to hunt down the monsters raised by the Church to exterminate witches and avenge those who suffered and died under its oppression.

A brief introduction sets the stage at the start of the game.

But what awaits at the end of this journey of revenge…?

3. Objective

The goal of the game is to guide the heroine deep into the Church’s territory. Along the way, you’ll defeat enemies to grow stronger, uncover documents that reveal the tragedy of the past and the truth behind it, and ultimately take down the Church’s five bosses.

Defeat all five bosses to clear the game and unlock every H-scene.

These glowing blue orbs are the resource you’ll use for leveling up.

You’ll find documents scattered throughout the game that expand on the world’s lore.

4. Gameplay Flow

The game follows a classic side-scrolling action format. Players explore stages, defeat monsters, gather resources, and use save points scattered throughout each map as progression checkpoints before eventually challenging the stage boss.

There are five major stages in total, each introducing new enemy types. If the heroine is knocked down and fails to recover in time, or is defeated outright, the game transitions into a corresponding H-scene. After dying, you’ll respawn at the most recent save point and continue your adventure.

Overall, it’s a fairly straightforward and familiar take on the classic 2D action-game formula.

Boss fights are easily one of the most anticipated parts of the game.

And of course, no adult game would be complete without its CG gallery.

5. UI & Core Gameplay Mechanics

The controls are pretty straightforward, and the game provides a basic tutorial when you first start, so here’s a quick rundown of the essentials.

Movement: A / D

Jump: Spacebar (supports double jump)

Basic Attack: Left Mouse Button. A three-hit combo with a lot of end lag. Not recommended.

Guard: Right Mouse Button. Honestly, I cleared the entire game without ever touching this button.

Magic: F Key. Fires a homing projectile. Very useful, though the targeting system is pretty terrible.

Ultimate Skill: R Key. Has a long casting animation but works great for clearing groups of enemies.

Dash: Shift Key. Extremely important, but it burns through SP quickly, so don’t spam it carelessly.

Your ultimate skill can deal damage over multiple hits.

The level-up menu is tied to the save points. Pressing Q while at a statue opens the upgrade screen, where you’ll find three stats:

ATK: Attack Power. Appears to affect every offensive ability.

HP: Your health pool.

SP: The resource consumed by almost every action except moving and jumping. It regenerates quickly, but you’ll still want to keep an eye on it.

That’s the quick version for now—more detailed strategy tips will be covered later.

As for the H-scenes, they’re divided into three categories:

Enemy Encounter Scenes: Certain enemy attacks can knock the heroine to the ground. Press Space to get back up, but if an enemy reaches you while you’re still down, an encounter scene will trigger. These play as short animated sequences that can be interrupted at any time, and watching them to completion doesn’t cause additional damage or penalties.

The heroine’s knockdown animation is basically just her character model laid flat on the ground.

If you stay down and let an enemy approach, the animation will trigger automatically.

Enemy Defeat Scenes: When the player dies, the scene that plays depends on the enemy that delivered the finishing blow. These are presented as animated CGs. The visual quality is decent, though they don’t include story text or voice acting, which makes them feel a little barebones.

The scenes are presented as looping 2D animations, and the quality is pretty decent.

Boss Defeat Scenes: As the name suggests, these only occur when you’re defeated by a boss. They’re similar in style to the encounter scenes, and this is where most of the game’s gore and grotesque content appears. To be fair, some of the bosses designed by the development team are genuinely disturbing to look at.

It’s a little disappointing that the bosses don’t have dedicated CGs.

There are ten full-screen CGs in total.

There are 10 encounter scenes and 10 defeat scenes, plus an additional set of boss defeat animations, bringing the total to 25 CGs and animations. More details on unlocking them will be covered later.

6. Walkthrough & Tips

Since this is a 2D action game, some players might assume it’s difficult or requires strong execution skills. In reality, the game is fairly easy and rarely demands any advanced techniques. Overall, it’s a very straightforward experience. Here are a few tips and pieces of information that may help.

Save System

The only way to save your progress is by interacting with the statues scattered throughout the stages. There are no manual saves, chapter select options, or stage restart features.

Once you’ve progressed past an area, there’s generally no going back. Fortunately, there aren’t many hidden secrets or collectibles that require extensive backtracking, so this isn’t a major issue.

You must find a statue if you want to save your progress.

Stat Upgrades

There are three upgradeable stats in the game:

ATK, HP, and SP.

Upgrade points come from the Pt currency earned by defeating enemies, and upgrades are purchased at the same statues used for saving.

The game doesn’t clearly display how many Pt are required for each upgrade, so there’s no need to obsess over farming points. If you can afford an upgrade, just buy it.

You can never go wrong by investing points into ATK.

As for recommendations, I’d suggest dumping almost everything into ATK.

You really don’t want to spend any more time fighting trash mobs than necessary, so killing them faster is always the best option.

If you’d like a more comfortable experience, putting a few points into SP isn’t a bad idea either. As mentioned earlier, nearly every action besides moving and jumping consumes SP. If you suddenly feel like your inputs aren’t responding, there’s a good chance you’ve simply run out of SP.

Combat Tips

None.

Honestly, that’s the answer I’d like to give.

As an action game, this one simply doesn’t feel very polished. Animations are stiff, hit detection can be inconsistent, and there aren’t any advanced mechanics or techniques to master. Most of the gameplay boils down to moving forward and attacking.

The reason I could still use skills with zero HP wasn’t because of my amazing gameplay—it was actually a bug.

That said, if I had to offer one piece of advice, it would be to make heavy use of your Magic and Ultimate Skill. One provides excellent ranged damage, while the other can wipe out groups of enemies with ease.

Basic attacks may come out quickly, but the recovery animation after the third hit is painfully long. This becomes especially dangerous during boss fights, so if you’re going to use normal attacks, stop after the second hit whenever possible.

Map Exploration

The map design is another area where the game disappointed me.

The stages feel rough, repetitive, and unnecessarily long. There’s no minimap to help track your location, and the game frequently zooms the camera in and out for no apparent reason, making it harder to see what’s ahead.

If the goal was to increase difficulty, this definitely wasn’t the way to do it.

My advice is simple: don’t waste time exploring suspicious-looking corners of the map.

There’s almost never anything there.

Unlocking CGs

Earlier, I mentioned that the game separates its content into encounter scenes and defeat scenes.

Since this is an adult game, most players will probably want to unlock the entire gallery. If you’d like to intentionally trigger scenes during your playthrough, that’s perfectly fine—but I strongly recommend against doing it solely for completion purposes.

The reason is that the gallery system appears to be bugged.

Partway through my playthrough, I checked the gallery from the title screen and noticed that several unlocked scenes didn’t match what I had actually triggered. Some scenes I’d already seen remained locked, while others I had never encountered were suddenly available.

Why was a Chapter 4 boss defeat animation unlocked when I had only finished Chapter 2?

Thanks for the spoiler, game.

I’m honestly not sure what’s wrong with the gallery system.

I wouldn’t recommend intentionally triggering scenes just for collection purposes.

If your goal is to unlock every CG, it’s honestly easier to just clear the game. Completing the game automatically unlocks everything anyway.

Final Thoughts

2D side-scrolling action games are a fairly common genre within the adult gaming scene. One thing I’ve always wondered, though, is why so many of them lean heavily into horror, gore, grotesque imagery, and monster-related themes. Is there some kind of unwritten rule I’m not aware of?

I haven’t played a huge number of games in this genre, but two of the more well-known examples would probably be “聖騎士リッカの物語” and “SiNiSistar 2.” Both are excellent titles with remarkably high production quality, and they left a strong impression on me.

Tentacles have basically become a mandatory feature in games like this.

As for 終焉の魔女, I’ll be honest—the overall quality feels extremely rough.

From the moment I started playing, I got the impression that this was likely the work of a relatively inexperienced team. Character animations and enemy movements lack fluidity, falling short of what you’d normally expect from an action game. The stage design feels uninspired, relying on long stretches of empty traversal to pad out playtime. There’s also very little variety between stages outside of enemy swaps.

With more polish and refinement, this could have been a much stronger game.

Long, repetitive maps don’t exactly give players a sense of accomplishment.

That said, the H-content does maintain a respectable level of quality. While there’s no accompanying story text or voice acting, the artwork and animation quality are solid, and there’s a decent amount of variety to the scenes.

My biggest complaint is that the content feels surprisingly tame. Considering the game already embraces an R18G aesthetic, I wouldn’t have minded if it had pushed the darker themes a bit further.

The CG quality is solid, though the overall content feels fairly tame.

Overall, 終焉の魔女 is a simple and easy-to-play dark fantasy action game. The gore and grotesque elements are relatively mild, and the difficulty is quite low.

I wouldn’t particularly recommend it to players who are highly critical of action game mechanics, but if you’re interested in the artwork, character designs, or visual presentation, it’s still worth giving 終焉の魔女 a look.
