Game Overview

Love or Lust Beach Stories is a visual novel and adventure game set in a beach resort. You play a young man who takes a job at a beach bar, and over 25 in-game days you build relationships with five heroines. The core mechanic is a two-track point system: almost every dialogue choice adds either Love or Lust, and the balance between the two decides which ending you get.

On top of the romance, the game packs in four mini-games (bartending, cashier duty, deliveries and item hunting), a shop, phone conversations and a main plot about demigods and an ancient power. The gallery holds 86 CGs split into four tabs: photos, videos, interactive scenes and character-swappable scenes. One playthrough runs about 3 hours, and clearing the whole gallery takes three runs.

Lo

Manager of the beach bar and the woman who hires you. She comes across as gentle and a little scatterbrained, but she is actually the demigoddess of love, hiding from the mad god Horny together with her half-sister Lu. She brews love potions, runs the bar well and is secretly building a weapon to use against Horny.

Lu

Lo’s half-sister and the demigoddess of lust. Blunt, straightforward and with zero patience for disobedience, she is the driving force behind the plan to destroy Horny. She properly enters the story around Day 12 and becomes the bar’s second manager.

Chloe

A shy but clever girl enrolled in a directing course who dreams of shooting her own film. Over the story she grows from timid to confident, clashes with her parents, stirs up controversy by making an erotic film and ends up going viral online. You can write a screenplay with her and buy her a camera.

Kiko

A hot-tempered cat-eared girl who races motorcycles at night. She has been tracking down a mysterious girl and holds a grudge against the organizer of the race, who took her late father’s motorcycle. The story eventually reveals that the girl she has been searching for is Michelle.

Madonna

A rich, loud brunette beauty. She is married but has no problem flirting with you, and she loves cocktails and parties. When her husband is arrested for kidnapping and murder, she slowly grows from a trophy beauty into a woman who understands herself much better.

Michelle

A sunny, outgoing professional diver and rescuer who shows up around Day 9. She is bisexual and develops something more than friendship with Kiko, and she turns out to be the girl Kiko has been looking for. Brave and adventurous, her favorite fish is the flame angelfish.

Greta

A mysterious, quiet vampire lady. She was once an Aztec girl who became a vampire to escape the conquistadors, slept for centuries and was finally woken by the call of blood and passion. She starts interacting with you after Day 17 and has an almost hypnotic power.

Other Characters

Horny (the mad god), Jeremiah, Maxine, Tommy, Carl, the Hotel Manager, Chloe’s dad, Stone Head and the Nymphs.

Game Systems

Love and Lust Points

Dialogue choices mostly fall into two types:

• Love choices: gentle, romantic, sweet replies. +1 Love
• Lust choices: bold, sexy, teasing replies. +1 Lust

The final ratio between the two decides your ending (see the ending guide below). Some choices only change how a scene plays out and give no points at all. Love and Lust do not carry over into a new playthrough, so every run starts from zero.

Besides dialogue, there are two extra chances to pick up a point:

• Once Jeremiah grows up, he lets you add one point to the stat of your choice (Love or Lust +1), so pick whichever your current route needs.
• On Day 5, the branch where you help Madonna come up with a stage name also lets you add one point to either stat.

Bartending

You work behind the bar and have to mix the right drink for each guest. In some rounds a specific character drops by. Getting the drink right (Good) or wrong (Bad) only gives you different dialogue and does not change any story branch. A great performance earns you bigger tips. The bar serves 19 cocktails in total.

Bartending schedule:

The “Day 1 to 10” labels on the in-game schedule are bartending rounds, not in-game days. The ten rounds are spread across the whole story.

Shop and Money

You earn money through mini-games and events, but some ways of making money cost you a chance at a CG, so weigh the trade-off. The shop sells two kinds of goods:

Special event items (buy these first): they trigger limited events or unlock CGs. Some of those events are time-limited, and once you miss the window the item is useless. If you have the cash, prioritize these.

Outfits: clothes you buy really do show up in the video scenes, which is a nice little bonus. In the gallery replay, though, the characters switch back to their default outfits.

Items and money do not carry over into a new playthrough either. You have to earn and buy everything again each run.

Mini-Games

There are four mini-games. Finishing them earns money and moves the story forward:

Hidden Object Scenes

Some chapters include hidden object puzzles, four scenes in total. Clearing one moves the story along and gives you a reward. The game also has a tutorial video if you get stuck.

Day-by-Day Walkthrough (Days 1 to 25)

Below are each day’s main events, the scene branches you can trigger and every player choice. A choice tagged +1 Love or +1 Lust gives one point of that stat. Untagged choices give no points but may still change a branch or a CG unlock.

Tip: on your first run, don’t stress about collecting everything. Just enjoy one route. Also note that loading a save wipes the record of choices you made earlier, so save-scumming will not get you every CG in one run. You really do have to play through three times to fill the gallery.

Choice lines below are translated from the Chinese build, so the exact wording in the English version may differ.

Day 1: First Day on the Job

You move into a trailer by the beach and start working at the bar. You meet Chloe (who gets knocked over), Kiko (a hot-tempered customer) and Madonna (a tipsy rich lady who barges in). Lo is your boss and teaches you how to mix drinks.

Today brings a big decision: do you hand the shower room key to Chloe or to Kiko? Each choice triggers a different shower scene. Keep chatting with everyone else as usual.

Day 5: Money and Gifts

A day for hustling. You can give Kiko $50 and give Madonna a crate of champagne, or sell the champagne instead. You keep working on the script with Chloe, and back home you might dream about Lo.

Your boss needs to raise money to repair broken equipment. One branch has you help Madonna think up a stage name. When you finish, she writes you a check, and during the naming scene you can also add one point to either stat (Love or Lust +1).

Ending day. Depending on the Love and Lust you’ve built up, you head into one of three endings, with final scenes featuring Lo and Lu.

Between Day 12 and Day 24 you collect a personal artifact from each character. On Day 25 you decide whether to throw them away.

If you’re going for the full gallery, throw away at least one artifact on Day 25. Throwing away all of them on every run is the safest way to make sure you get the ending CGs for all three routes.

Ending Guide

The game has 3 endings, decided by your Love and Lust on Day 25: Lo’s and Lu’s endings need the leading stat at 45 or more, while the threesome needs the two to be exactly equal. The prerequisite: throw away at least one artifact on Day 25, or you never enter the ending check. Keep every artifact and none of the ending scenes below will play, and you won’t get their exclusive CGs.

The story plays a lot like a harem game, but only the threesome ending actually carries a bit of that harem feel.

Clearing the gallery takes three real playthroughs. Loading a save resets the record of earlier choices, so save-scumming can’t replace extra runs, and Love and Lust don’t carry over either, so you rebuild them from scratch each time. A run takes about 3 hours, so just commit to three speedruns: one pure Lust run, one pure Love run and one balanced run (see the run plan below for the recommended order). Remember to throw away the artifacts on Day 25 every single run, or you won’t reach the ending check or the ending CGs. Every other CG comes from branch choices and shop items and isn’t affected by which ending you get. Good luck.

There are 86 CGs in total, split across four gallery tabs: Photos (24), Videos (50), Interactive Scenes (5) and Character-Swappable Scenes (7). Interactive and character-swappable scenes add up to 12, and in the character-swappable ones you can freely switch characters in the gallery.

The CG gallery is available from the main menu and has four tabs. Since each of the three endings has its own exclusive CG, and many scenes need different choices on specific routes, you can’t fill the gallery in a single playthrough. Loading a save cancels the record of earlier choices, so save-scumming won’t work either. You need three full runs to collect all 86.

Best Three-Run Plan for the Full Gallery

All 86 CGs take three full runs. Here’s the suggested order for collecting everything with as little repetition as possible:

Run 1: Lust Route

Pick the Lust option every time so Lust ends up higher than Love.

• Always go with the bold, sexy, teasing replies in dialogue.
• Put Jeremiah’s bonus point and the point from Madonna’s stage-name branch into Lust.
• At every branch, take the side that unlocks a CG, and favor branches you haven’t tried yet.
• Throw away all the artifacts on Day 25 to trigger Lu’s ending.
• Why Lust first: many branch choices unlock more of the video CGs on the Lust route.

Run 2: Love Route

Pick the Love option every time so Love ends up higher than Lust.

• Always go with the gentle, romantic, sweet replies in dialogue.
• Put every bonus point into Love.
• Take the opposite side of the branches you chose in Run 1 to pick up the remaining photo CGs.
• Throw away all the artifacts on Day 25 to trigger Lo’s ending.

Run 3: Balanced Route

Carefully manage Love and Lust so they are exactly equal on Day 25.

• This is the hardest run, and you’ll need to track the points from every choice.
• During the first two runs, keep a note of how many point-giving choices there are in total, then split them evenly in Run 3.
• Fill in any branch CGs you missed in the first two runs (shop items, item hunting scenes and so on).
• Throw away all the artifacts on Day 25 to trigger the threesome ending.

On every run, remember to throw away at least one artifact on Day 25 (all of them is best), or you’ll miss the ending CGs. Buy shop items early, especially event items, since they’re wasted once their window passes. Outfits can wait until last because they don’t affect CG collection.

Player Notes

For a game built in UE5, I’d say the character models are above average for the genre, and the scenery and lighting have real polish. Some of the animations and facial expressions could still use more finesse, though.

One more thing: the interactive videos are great, but I really wish there were an option to rotate the 3D scenes freely. Please, please, please!

My recommended order is Lust first, then Love, then the balanced route. Opening with Lust hits harder, the Love route tells the more complete and heartwarming story, and the balanced run with its careful point math makes a good final challenge.

There are quite a few one-way scene branches, and each one actually has three outcomes that line up with the three routes, so the same event plays out differently from run to run. That keeps replays from getting boring, because every run shows you something new.

A fun little detail is Madonna’s accent. In the English voice track she has a very obvious foreign accent that sounds like a deliberate character trait, and paired with her rich and loud persona it adds a lot of comedy.

As a beach-themed visual novel, I think it does well on story depth (the demigod main plot), characters (every heroine has a full backstory) and replay value (three runs for the full gallery). One run is about 3 hours and a full three-run clear takes roughly 9 to 10 hours, so the pacing never drags.
